The Cabala

Faction Description: No one is quite sure who or what the Cabala is exactly. They are definitely a secret society with an incredible reach into the inner workings of the City of the Six Spires. Their symbols appear all over; ancient statues holding amulets, the stone work of old buildings which no one alive can ever remember not being there, the way that at certain times of day sunlight can be reflected off a particular faded street sign to highlight a long-forgotten trap door in a rotted floor. The signs of The Cabala are everywhere, and yet also no where. No one has ever been found responsible for creating these clues and symbols. There is always a little story to explain each one, a quick, simple, reasonable tale that ties everything up nicely... All too nicely.
There is a secret to this city. A secret that is hidden in the very stones that make its monuments, a secret that will reveal ancient lore and lay bare the mysteries of the universe. But only to those who are skilled and smart and brave enough to follow its clues, where ever they may take them.
The searchers will find more than riddles along their way. Forbidden, forgotten and useful information lays encoded in the most unexpected places, and those who find it are granted such powers. Perhaps you will find a rite written in a cipher in the margins of an old library book? Or maybe there will be a sign pointing you to treasures hidden long, long ago by a paranoid miser. The prizes are out there, if you are willing to search.

Faction Members: One cannot simply join the Cabala, since no one knows who or what it is. Instead, the faction can be said to be those searching for what the Cabala has left to be found. Academics are drawn to such questions, of course, but anyone with a love of puzzles can answer the call. Or become obsessed with it. Archaeologists have been known to disappear down the Cabala 'rabbit hole' only to emerge years later and telling strange tales of cover ups and shadow governments.
Being a 'searcher' for the Cabala does not stop someone being a member of another faction. Who knows what a full-time searcher could uncover?

Relationship to the Six:The Cabala, being based around decoding mysterious codes found around the city, has resulted in a number of the schemes of the Subjects of the Fifth being uncovered. While the Fifth at first regarded these incidents as jovial fun, as they became more common she became more irate. A Searcher should be careful, for the Subjects and the Soliders take a dim view of their activities.

A financially successful Searcher should also be on the look out for the Accountants of the Second, who may pay them a visit to enquire about they obtained their wealth.

The Third is happy to add any findings of the Cabala to its library, and so subtly encourages them (in so far as the Librarians are capable of being subtle).

Given how many of the clues and puzzles of the Cabala seem to be built into the very foundations of the city, it is usually agreed that the Fourth is a key piece of the puzzle, although no one agrees on what exactly cause the ever-changing Spire has to do such a thing.

The Sixth would like to remind the Searchers that trespassing and breaking and entering still a crime if you do it armed with a notebook and a love of puzzles. However, Searchers will be handsomely rewarded for providing information on crimes they may have uncovered during their search.
